"Immigrants: we get the job done" -- Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton
Protestant christening and marriage records for Freinsheim become available again in beginning in January 1816
after a gap of more than 17 years for christening records and 13 years for marriage records. Bridging the gap is tricky and often relies more on
guesswork than evidence. This is especially true because in most cases, parents' names were not included in the marriage records.
I was tentatively able to identify Johann Ehrhardt,
who married Catharina Hux (or Huck) 15 Sep 1817,
and Johannes Ehrhardt,
the son of Susanna Ehrhardt, who married Sophia Fett,
the daughter of Wilhelm Fett and Margaretha Burckhardt, 04 Apr 1839.
The older Johann(es) was later referred to as Johannes I Ehrhardt.
All the children christened in Freinsheim with the last name Ehrhardt 1816-1839 were born to him and Catharina Huck.
The younger Johannes was later referred to as Johannes II Ehrhardt.
All the children christened in Freinsheim with the last name Ehrhardt from 1840 until the records end in 1875
were born to Johannes I, Johannes II or Johannes III, the son of Johannes I.
The following are the marriages for which I was not able to identify the participants more closely:
- 10 Jan 1816: Catharina Ehrhardt married Leonhardt Lotz.
Catharina was buried in Freinsheim 22 Oct 1847. Leonhardt was buried in Freinsheim 08 Feb or Mar 1849;
- 06 Mar 1821: Magdalena Ehrhardt married Heinrich Selzer.
There are burial records for a Heinrich II Selzer married to Johanna Magdalena Ehrhardt dated 09 Aug 1856
and a Johanna Magdalena Ehrhardt married to Heinrich II Selzer dated 06 Jan 1863;
- 21 Aug 1832: Juliane Ehrhardt married Jacob Adam. Juliana was buried in Freinsheim 17 Mar 1840;
- 19 Jan 1836: Susanna Ehrhardt married Johannes Wanner;
- 01 Jun 1837: Anna Maria Ehrhardt married Georg Franz Webel. Georg Franz may or may not have been previously married to
Anna Maria Pirmann;
- 20 Aug 1844: Anna Elisabetha Ehrhardt, daughter of Philipp Jakob Ehrhardt and Maria Christina Ehresmann,
married Jacob Kunz, son of Johann Justus Kunz and Christina Höhn. In this case I can say with confidence that the bride was born not in
Freinsheim but rather 19 km SSW in Haardt, on 01 Jan 1823; and
- 25 May 1847: Susanna Elisabetha Ehrhardt married Peter Bamberger.
This marriage was unusual for an Ehrhardt in that the ceremony was Catholic.
There's a burial record for an Anna Elisabetha Ehrhardt married to Peter Bamberger dated 29 Oct 1848.
In addition to the burial records mentioned above, there are five more burial records for which I was not able to identify the deceased more closely:
- 07 Mar 1819: Catharina Ehrhardt, wife of Heinrich Ehrhardt;
- 02 Apr 1823; Johann Wilhelm Ehrhardt, no further information supplied.
Possibly the Johann Wilhelm Ehrhardt born 1745,
his nephew Wilhelm Ehrhardt born 1767 or
a third party altogether;
- 02 Feb 1828: Maria Magdalena Ehrhardt, wife of Georg Christoph Bayer. The couple had at least two children born in 1826 or earlier.
Georg Bayer married Elisabetha Besch in Freinsheim 26 Dec 1843.
Anna Christina Bayer married Michael Stein in Freinsheim 03 Oct 1844.
It's therefore probable that Maria Magdalena was born in 1807 or earlier.
Christoph Bayer, the husband of Anna Magdalena Ehrhardt, died and was buried in Freinsheim 29 Jun 1841;
- 15 Mar 1853: Susanna Ehrhardt, wife of Jakob I Webel. They were possibly the parents of Jacob Webel born in Freinsheim 25 May 1797.
This would mean that Susanna was probably born before 1779 and was in at least her mid-70s at the time of death; and
- 28 Aug 1859: Heinrich Ehrhardt, husband of Elisabeth Strefler.
