Christina Margaretha Schik and Georg Jacob Engel

Georg Jacob Engel was the son of Christina Elisabetha and Henrich Engel born 22 Aug 1766 and christened in Freinsheim 24 Aug 1766. On 20 Apr 1790 he married Christina Margaretha in Weisenheim am Sand, 3 km ENE of Freinsheim. Christina Margaretha was the daughter of Caspar and Anna Christina Schik born 07 Jul 1765 and christened in Weisenheim am Sand 11 Jul 1765.

Georg Jacob and Margaretha Christina had at least four children, all christened in Freinsheim:

There may have been more children. No records have survived of Protestant christenings in Freinsheim between October 1798 and December 1815. There are also no surviving records for Protestant marriages in Freinsheim between July 1802 and December 1815, the period in which most of Christina Margaretha and Georg Jacob's children would have become marriageable.

It's quite likely that Heinrich born in 1791 is the Heinrich Engel who married Anna Christina Orth and that Maria Barbara born in 1794 is the Maria Barbara Engel who married Georg Franz Orth in Freinsheim 11 Dec 1821. The two Orths were probably siblings, the children of Catharina Elisabetha (Faber?) and Philipp Jacob Orth.

There's also an Anton Engel who married Catharina Barbara Orth in Freinsheim 11 Feb or Mar 1834. Both Anton and Catharina Barbara were born during the records gap. It's impossible to tell whether or not Anton was the younger brother of Heinrich and Maria Barbara or whether or not Catharina Barbara was the younger sister of Anna Christina and Georg Franz.

Christina Margaretha "Scheck," wife of Georg Jacob Engel, died and was buried in Freinsheim 29 Jul 1825.

Note: Most of the information I have on the Werner, Engel and Sohn families in Freinsheim from the late 17th to the mid 19th centuries came to me in 2004 courtesy of Siegfried Barth, archivist with the Verbandsgemeinde Freinsheim (Freinsheim Community Association). Where possible I've supplemented it with church records available at FamilySearch.org. Many thanks to Herr Barth and also to my late granduncle Robert Werner, who made the first contact and then recruited my help because he and Herr Barth had no languages in common.
