"Immigrants: we get the job done" -- Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton
I found five sets of records relating to Messingers (or Moessingers) in Freinsheim in the early 18th century:
- Susanna Messinger married Hans Jacob Reck in Freinsheim 29 Nov 1699.
- Catharina Sibilla and Davidt Messinger had four children christened during the years 1709-1715:
- Maria Magdalena christened 01 Dec 1709;
- Susanna Maria born 07 Jun 1711, christened 14 Jun 1711;
- Jacob christened 12 Dec 1713; and
- Davidt christened 17 Nov 1715. Married Sibilla Catharina Lippold, the daughter of Johann Jacob Lippold, in Freinsheim
25 Aug 1944. It's possible that Sibilla Catharina was deceased by April 1749
and that Davidt was also the David Messinger who married Anna Catharina Faber, the daughter Johann Georg Faber, in Freinsheim
28 Apr 1749. Neither couple had any children.
- Anna Catharina Messinger, the daughter of Sebastian Messinger, married Johann Adam Schaffner
in Freinsheim 02 Nov 1718. They had seven, possibly eight children.
- Johannes Messinger married Maria Elisabetha Hohl,
the daughter of Wilhelm Hohl, in Freinsheim 25 Feb 1727. They had nine children:
- Johann Henrich christened 14 Nov 1728;
- Susanna Margaretha born 15 Apr 1730, christened 23 Apr 1730;
- Maria Margaretha born 31 Mar 1732, christened 06 Apr 1732;
- Catharina born 08 Nov 1734, christened 14 Nov 1734;
- Samuel born 19 Jan 1738, christened 22 Jan 1738;
- Maria Eva born 14 Jul 1739, christened 19 Jul 1739;
- Maria Catharina born 15 Mar 1741, christened 19 Mar 1741. Her name may indicate that Catharina born in 1734 was deceased;
- Susanna born 25 Sep 1743, christened 29 Sep 1743. Her name may indicate that Susanna Margaretha born in 1730 deceased; and
- Johann Jacob born 01 Dec 1745, christened 05 Dec 1745.
- David Messinger married Jacobea Charlotta Knahffer, the daughter of Johannes Knahffer, in Freinshim in January 1730.
They had seven children:
- Anna Maria born 12 Nov 1730, christened 18 Nov 1730;
- Philipp Jacob born 08 Feb 1732, christened 13 Feb 1732. Deceased by March 1742;
- Philipp Ludwig born 06 Aug 1733, christened 09 Aug 1733. Possibly the Philipp Ludwig Messinger who married
Wilhelmina Margaretha. Their son Carl August was born 27 Jun 1766 and christened in Freinsheim 28 Jun 1766, but I don't
have any further information about the family;
- Johann Christoph born 25 Jun 1735, christened 29 Jun 1735.
Married Catharina Elisabetha Albert, the daughter of Jacob Albert,
in Freinsheim 05 Feb 1759;
- Anna Louysa born 08 May 1737, christened 12 May 1737. Married Heironymus Brautwein in Freinsheim in November 1757;
- Philipp Balthasar born 07 Nov 1739, christened 11 Nov 1739; and
- Philipp Jacob born 05 Mar 1742, christened 11 Mar 1742.
There's one other couple who had children christened in Freinsheim under the name Messinger during the period 1698-1758.
Johannes Messinger married Anna Maria Ehrhardt in Freinsheim 28 Nov 1747.
This is two years after the birth of Maria Elisabetha Hohl and Johannes Messinger's ninth child, so it's possible that Maria
Elisabetha had died and Johannes remarried.
Anna Maria and Johannes had two children, Anna Catharina born 03 Sep 1748, christened
08 Sep 1748, and Johann Wendel born 09 May 1750, christened 10 May 1750.
Johann Wendel married Catarina Margareta in Freinsheim in January 1771. I don't have a record of the bride's last name or of
any children born to this couple. Anna Catharina is the most likely candidate for the "Catarina Mossinger" who married
Johann Peter Wigand, son of Adam Wigand, in Freinsheim in April 1775. She would have been 27 years old at the time, while
the groom was 26. This makes the daughters of Maria Elisabetha Hohl and Johannes Messinger born in 1734 and 1741 much less
likely candidates.
